Examination of ecological and evolutionary concepts through focus on a particular region.

A priority of the course is to prepare students to get as much as possible out of the extended field trip in the focal region that constitutes the bulk of the companion course Bio 4452, Field Ecology & Evolution Laboratory.

Focal region in Fall 2009 (as preparation for Bio 4452 in Spring 2009):

México's Yucatán Peninsula and Tropical Mesoamerica

Students completing both Bio 4451 and Bio 4452 fulfill:

  • Dept. of Biology distribution requirement in population biology

  • Core curriculum requirement for a research course

  • Writing Enriched course

  • Core curriculum Diversity requirement, Category 3
