Exploration in the field of natural history and ecological systems in an off-campus focal region. Group excursions to various ecosystems within the focal region, focusing on identification of organisms and interpretation of ecological patterns and relationships. Individual field research projects: data collection during off-campus field trip, followed by data analysis and results presentations on campus.

Focal region in Spring 2009: Yucatán Peninsula, México. Base of operations (tentative): Centro Ecológico Akumal, Akumal, Quintana Roo, México
